The Locke Foundation Oral History Project

The Locke Foundation has long recognized the need to memorialize the unique life histories of the residents of Locke and surrounding communities. As part of this effort, the Locke Foundation has an active Oral History Project in which we record long-form interviews with individuals and families about their life experiences growing up and working in Locke and the surrounding Sacramento River Delta region. These interviews provide deep insight into a past that is not accessible by any other method.

As part of the foundation’s mission to educate the public about the history and culture of Locke, these interviews are available to interested scholars and the public.

One significant positive result of the Oral History Project has been the creation of our first documentary, “Voices: Chinese Women of the Delta.” This documentary is displayed in this webpage, and is available to view on YouTube.

In addition, if you or your family would like to be interviewed about your family history, or financially support the efforts of the Oral History Project, please let us know.
