Locke Celebrates 18th Asian Pacific Street Festival

Three hours before the 18th annual Locke Asian Pacific Street Festival was kicked off, a small army of volunteers worked feverishly behind the scenes.

The day before traffic cones were placed in strategic parking areas to guide parking coordinators. “No parking signs” were displayed on Main Street. Vendor booth boundaries were marked with chalk on the asphalt. Walkie-talkies were being recharged. Veteran shoppers were scouring supermarket aisles for guest refreshments. Hundreds of emails were exchanged among planning committee members.

Opening ceremonies were kicked off with welcome remarks by Mark Miller, LF board member and Interpreter for California State Parks, praising the historical significance of the town of Locke and the ongoing efforts to preserve its legacy.
Eastern Ways lions frolicked down Main Street engaging with young spectators. Their martial arts team demonstrated the traditional routines of kung fu.
Jim Chong, a veteran emcee at these events, introduced various performing arts group choreographed by entertainment chair, Eva Chu.
